And that’s before a massive surge of spectators join the fray starting Thursday afternoon. Just between Wednesday afternoon and early Thursday morning, it’s easy to envision things getting hectic for employees attempting to get to work on time. In the highly-plausible situation that parking at the various properties on The Strip quickly becomes unavailable, the Las Vegas Monorail becomes overcrowded or delayed and the shuttle bus system struggles to stay on time, significant delays for at least some employees seem inevitable. Overall, 26,784 average daily riders will be affected. During race week, the RTC estimates that as a result of the five aforementioned routes being detoured, 67 stops will be impacted. For the October, the average on-time percentage for buses was just 38 percent. Partially due to F1 construction, RTC reported there were four routes detoured, 38 stops closed and 7,120 average daily riders impacted during October. In order to gauge whether the shuttle bus system will run smoothly, it’s worth examining the RTC’s most recent performance. Of the 39 routes that the buses typically use, five will be impacted by the race. The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada will have all 400 of its buses in use. Shuttle buses will also run from the convention center to various properties from 9 p.m. The first is the Las Vegas Monorail, which will adjust its usual hours of operation to run 24 hours per day throughout the week, have seven stations in operation, and can move about 3,000 people per hour in one direction. Those who park at the convention center will have two options to get to The Strip. Most employees will be expected to park at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other satellite lots. Since space is limited in those parking structures and plenty of workers won’t start their shifts until after The Strip shuts down, that likely won’t be practical for most of them. The easiest method will be for them to drive their personal vehicles and park at the properties they work at.
